TRAVERTINE

Travertine derives its natural beauty from its formation near the mouths of hot springs over hundreds of years. As a sedimentary rock it often has mineral deposits and other inclusions that give every piece its unique patterns and colors.

Depending on the particular location, the weather conditions and the surrounding vegetation,  a quarry will produce one or more breathtaking colors. Universal Hardscape Supplies selects only the finest specimens available on the market. Within each color there will still be a fair amount of interesting variation as there is in any material sourced in nature.

Travertine is naturally water and moisture resistant. With your safety in mind, our travertine is tested by TCNA (Tile Council of North America) to meet slip-resistance standards.

LIMESTONE

Limestone is a metamorphic rock very similar to travertine. The difference is that travertine  is formed by layers of sediment compressed over time on the earth’s surface or under lake beds, whereas limestone has been created by the transformation of other types of rock through heat and pressure. This is why you will see more detail patterning and some porosity in travertine, where as the more compacted limestone will seem somewhat more unified with less emphasis on inclusions and no obvious porosity .  Limestone’s simple classic beauty is enhanced by a natural, slightly cooler feel beneath your feet.

Our limestone is tested by TCNA (Tile Council of North America) to meet slip-resistance standards, for your safety.
